Als Inspirationsquelle f\u00fcr Geschichten und Legenden ist der Rhea in der Folklore so pr\u00e4sent wie auf allen Wegen in Patagonien. Es ist ein gro\u00dfer, pflanzenfressender, flugunf\u00e4higer Vogel. Sie nutzen ihre weichen Fl\u00fcgel als Stabilisatoren und sind schnelle L\u00e4ufer. Es ist einer der beiden &#8222;amerikanischen Strau\u00dfe&#8220;, hat aber im Gegensatz zu seinem afrikanischen Verwandten drei Zehen statt zwei. Die Weibchen legen 8-10 Eier, die vom M\u00e4nnchen bebr\u00fctet werden. Er \u00fcbernimmt auch die elterliche Verantwortung f\u00fcr die \u201eCharitos\u201c, die ihm den gr\u00f6\u00dften Teil des Sommers folgen. Im Winter bilden sie gemischte Gruppen von M\u00e4nnern, Frauen und Jugendlichen. Der Harem besteht aus einem M\u00e4nnchen und einem bis f\u00fcnfzehn Weibchen. Dies variiert je nach Region und h\u00e4ngt stark von der Verf\u00fcgbarkeit von Nahrungsmitteln ab. Das M\u00e4nnchen misst 1,50 Meter und wiegt bis zu 30 kg. Das Weibchen ist kleiner. Es ern\u00e4hrt sich von Gr\u00e4sern, senkt den Kopf und den langen Hals. Die <strong>Choique<\/strong> essen auch Getreide, Brot, Fliegen und Insekten, die in der Luft gefangen sind. F\u00fcr die <strong>patagonischen Ureinwohner<\/strong> war es neben dem <strong>Guanaco<\/strong> ein beliebtes Nahrungsmittel, und sie nutzten es voll aus: Fleisch, Knorpel und Fett wurden zu Nahrungszwecken konsumiert; Federn als Ziergegenst\u00e4nde, F\u00e4cher und Schneebesen; Die Beinsehnen wurden zur Herstellung von Seilen f\u00fcr Bolas und Knochen f\u00fcr Musikinstrumente verwendet.
