The predominant west winds dispersed and carried the ash east across <strong>Argentine Patagonia<\/strong> and eventually, as far east as the African Continent.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3663 size-full\" title=\"False Killer Whale in Puerto Piramides Bay\" src=\"https:\/\/ecohosteria.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/orcas_falsas_valdes_.jpg\" alt=\"False Killer Whale in Pen\u00ednsula Valdes \" width=\"700\" height=\"458\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The coast of <b>Chubut<\/b>, and more precisely the <b>Bay of <a href=\"https:\/\/ecohosteria.com.ar\/en\/puerto-piramides-our-little-town-within-valdes-peninsula\/\">Puerto Piramides<\/a><\/b>, invaded by this irregular atmosphere of volcanic particles, was surprised by the sudden appearance of a group of approximately 150 <b>False Orcas<\/b> <i>(Pseudorca Crassidens<\/i>) and <b>Bottle Nose Dolphins<\/b> (<i>Tursiops Truncatus<\/i>) in an extremely unusual event.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3666\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3666\" class=\"wp-image-3666 size-full\" title=\"False Killer Whale in Puerto Piramides Bay\" src=\"https:\/\/ecohosteria.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/false_killer_whale_.jpg\" alt=\"Killer Whale in Pen\u00ednsula Valdes - kayak Canoe\" width=\"700\" height=\"126\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3666\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Killer Whale in Pen\u00ednsula Valdes &#8211; kayak Canoe<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The group was comprised mainly of mothers and their calves, of both species, swimming together from one side of the bay to the other, back and forth, moving in circles and not stopping over a four day period before disappearing. Several neighbors went out in <b>kayaks<\/b> or small boats to better observe these beautiful creatures and attempt to document this unforgettable and singular event.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3664 size-full\" title=\"False Killer Whale - Peninsula Valdes\" src=\"https:\/\/ecohosteria.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/falsa_orca.jpg\" alt=\"False Killer Whale - Peninsula Valdes\" width=\"700\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The immense volcanic cloud covered the sky well beyond the horizon and in all directions. The cloud contained a high percentage of quartz and other minerals that could have affected their biological radar, disorienting and complicating the dolphin\u2019s ability to navigate. Some time ago, while observing photographs of this event and having a conversation with a visitor at <b>Del Nomade<\/b>, <b>Doug Bertan<\/b>, a producer from the <b>National Geographic<\/b> <b>Society, <\/b>he commented that the only time he has observed <b>False Orcas<\/b> was ten years ago along the coast of California and coinciding with a volcanic eruption that had created similar atmospheric conditions in the area. These two separate and isolated events emphasize the theory of magnetic navigation with these <strong>marine mammals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3665 size-full\" title=\"False Killer Whale - Peninsula Valdes\" src=\"https:\/\/ecohosteria.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/orca_falsas_valdes_.jpg\" alt=\"False Killer Whale - Peninsula Valdes\" width=\"700\" height=\"461\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the morning of the fifth day, they had abandoned the bay and were not seen again, fortunately, no observations were made of dead or beached individuals<b>. False Orcas<\/b> live in Open Ocean, are not sociable with boats and are seldom observed. There are some areas with a greater propensity for sightings of this species like the <b>Cebu islands<\/b> in the <b>Philippines<\/b>, the east coast of <b>Australia,<\/b> <b>the Eastern Caribbean Sea <\/b>and <b>Hawaii.<\/b><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3669\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3669\" class=\"wp-image-3669 size-full\" title=\"False Killer Whale - Peninsula Valdes\" src=\"https:\/\/ecohosteria.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/orca_falsa_valdes_.jpg\" alt=\"False Killer Whale - Peninsula Valdes\" width=\"700\" height=\"449\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3669\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">False Killer Whale &#8211; Peninsula Valdes<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">I was able to capture these images thanks to the incessant invitations of <b>Pablo Passera<\/b>, owner and guide of <b>Patagonian Explorers<\/b>, dedicated to <b>trekking <\/b>and <b><a href=\"https:\/\/ecohosteria.com.ar\/en\/kayaks-in-peninsula-valdes-from-puerto-piramides-argentine-patagonia\/\">kayak expeditions<\/a>. Del Nomade <\/b>was<\/span> in construction and with Cecilia, my wife, we had spent the last year and a half immersed and focused on the building Project, to the point that<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I have no recollection of even going on a <a href=\"https:\/\/ecohosteria.com.ar\/en\/whale-watching-in-peninsula-valdes-argentine-patagonia\/\"><strong>whale watching tour<\/strong><\/a> in all that time. Pablo pulled us from the project and stuck us into a tandem <b>ocean-kayak<\/b> and two minutes later we were five neighbors kayaking amongst the <b>False Orcas<\/b>. Together in a small boat, <b>Stephen Johnson<\/b> was taking photographs and <b>Daniel \u201cPulpo\u201d Casielles<\/b> in his wetsuit and his video camera prepared in an underwater housing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3670 size-full\" title=\"False Killer Whale - Peninsula Valdes photographer\" src=\"https:\/\/ecohosteria.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/false_killer_whale_b.jpg\" alt=\"False Killer Whale - Peninsula Valdes photographer\" width=\"700\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These two images of us were taken by <b>Stephen<\/b> and make up part of an unforgettable photographic file.
