On the 29th of September, 1967 the Nature Reserve at Punta Loma was established. This was the first nature reserve to be established in Chubut and just 10.5 mi ( 17km ) from Puerto Madryn, its two observation platforms allow for the unobtrusive observation of Sea Lions.
The Punta Loma Nature Reserve also has a very interesting interpretive pathway for the identification of local flora. Although short in stature, the flora of the Patagonian Steppe is extremely varied with many plants that take decades to grow just a couple of meters.
In this colony of sea lions, snorkeling and diving with sea lions are practiced. All authorized operators leave from the beach of Puerto Madryn. Coastal navigation of 10 minutes locates us in front of the wilderness of the Reserve of Punta Loma. Before touching the water, the obligatory talk about the use of equipment, for those who practice snorkeling for the first time has a basic knowledge of its use. They also explain the low impact standards established so as not to alter too much the behavior of this marine fauna reserve. The photography service guarantees that the memory of such a particular activity remains in the memory of visitors who venture to experience this experience. Impossible not to take a souvenir of diving or snorkeling with sea lions.
If you have the opportunity to do this activity, do not miss it is an approach to a species with reality very different from ours. Living this adventure allows us to get away from the city and immerse ourselves in another world, a world as real and absorbing as ours, where these animals, also mammals, develop their daily existence, with the innocence and tenderness that humanity needs to recover.
