Many Penguins that are seen in Punta Tombo, San Lorenzo and in all the Penguins have metal rings, with a unique number on one of their wings. This identification distinguishes them and allows to know the age and study them as the season’s pass. Some of these specimens that are ringed have something over 35 years.
In Punta Tombo, you may observe some people outside the limits allowed. They are part of a group of scientists and volunteers who study ecology and conservation of the Magellanic Penguin through an agreement between the Tourism Board of the Province of Chubut and the Wildlife Conservation Society. The objective of this project is to obtain information relevant to the conservation of this penguin colony. If you do not see them, it is because they can be in places further away from the perimeter that is visited periodically on the permitted path. But you can see the colored ribbons in some shrubs indicate the nests that are being studied.
