Puerto Pirámides is the only town within the Península Valdés Reserve and the only port for Southern Right Whale watching. It features hotels, rental houses, apartments, hostels, and guest houses for accommodation, as well as restaurants and bars for dining and drinks.
Adventure sports are part of daily life in the town. You can enjoy trekking, kayaking, mountain biking, scuba diving, diving with sea lions, boat trips, or 4×4 tours through the reserve, visiting colonies of South American sea lions, elephant seals, and penguin colonies.
It is possible to rent a vehicle at the airport or book a shuttle service to the various nearby cities.
Puerto Pirámides is located 180 km from the city of Trelew and 100 km from Puerto Madryn, the only two cities with airports.
Renting a Car
This is the best alternative for exploring Península Valdés, as most attractions require traveling some distance. The downsides are the rental cost and the responsibility of driving on gravel roads.
Booking a Shuttle (Transfer)
You can arrange a private shuttle with drivers based out of Puerto Pirámides. This is the most comfortable option, though also the most expensive, especially if you need an arrival transfer, a tour of the Peninsula, and a return transfer.
Traveling by Bus
The most economical alternative. The Mar y Valle company frequently connects Trelew with Puerto Madryn, but service between Puerto Madryn and Puerto Pirámides is limited. If you choose this option, you will need to adjust your flights to match their available schedules.

How many days do you recommend staying?
The ideal amount of time to fully enjoy Puerto Pirámides and its surroundings is a minimum of 3 nights. Weather conditions can sometimes close the port for a day, and missing out on a whale-watching trip because you rushed your visit is a shame that can easily be avoided by planning for more time.
Península Valdés has a lot to explore: Punta Norte, Caleta Valdés, Punta Delgada, and Isla de los Pájaros. Each of these destinations is more than 60 km away from the town via gravel roads, and each one easily justifies a full day trip.
Puerto Pirámides is a town of 700 inhabitants. There is no shopping mall, no movie theater, and no traffic lights. What you will find here is nature, silence, starlight, and the sound of whales breathing at night. For anyone coming in search of that, three days will feel far too short.
