Crested Duck
The Crested Duck (Lophonetta specularioides) is a bird from South America and of the 2 species that exist, one nest in Chilean Patagonia and Argentina, including the Malvinas Islands. It inhabits freshwater lakes and marine coasts.
Therefore Peninsula Valdes comes in the spring because it is a nesting season and the peninsula is great maternity. The females of this species put 5 to 8 eggs and incubation lasts 30 days, when they appear beautiful ducklings that are not separated from the mother. They eat mollusks and invertebrates and also eat some seaweed, measure between 20/23 in ( 50/60 cm ) and weigh a little over 2.2 lb ( 1 kg ) During the winter it moves along both coasts towards the north reaching the center of Chile and Argentina.
